Naracoorte Caves National Park to get massive funding boost

The Naracoorte Caves National Park will continue upgrades of the site after $1.4m funding was green-lighted by the federal and state governments.

Federal assistant minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Keith Pitt announced the funding during a visit to the site yesterday.

In the third round of the Australian government’s Tourism Demand Driver Infrastructure program (TDDI), the world heritage listed site will receive $600,000 which will be backed by a further $785,000 from the SA government.

“This program ensures government investments are focused on tourism projects that have benefits across the tourism sector,” Mr Pitt said.

The $1.4m stage of the Naracoorte Caves Visitor Precinct Upgrade has three main parts, starting with the construction of viewing platforms, lighting, seating and safety fencing to the loop-walk trail.

The second part is the extension of the trail to the Wet Cave and the Cathedral Caves followed by the design, production and installation of interpretation and way finding signage across the main visitor centre precinct, as well as new main entry signage.

Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin said it was a fantastic example of governments working together to achieve real outcomes for regions.

“The Naracoorte Caves are a critical tourism attraction for Naracoorte and a core attraction in the wider Limestone Coast tourism region,” Mr Pasin said.

“Upgrades to this site will increase visitor numbers and length of stay which is great news for businesses in Naracoorte and the broader Limestone Coast.”

The MP is pleased the federal government has chosen to invest in this project that will drive economic growth in our region.

Through the TDDI project almost $3.99 million Commonwealth funding is being invested over four years in SA.

The works are on track to be completed by the end of June this year.
